Kempeleen lukio is a UNESCO partner school. Promoting responsibility for global welfare is among the key principles in our school. This has been implemented in, e.g., our participation in child sponsorship programmes and charitable operations. The annual international week, the most noticeable of our events, involves the entire school in the different tasks of its preparation and execution. A rotation of study topics and co-operation partners in the fields of science, arts and politics brings top characters and talents from Finland and abroad to our school. Women's' position has been defined as the key topic of this school year.
Our school offers a wide range of different courses, including a large number of additional learning support and rehearsal courses for both beginning students and for those heading for the completion of their studies. In our school, the upper secondary school diploma can also be achieved in fine arts, physical education and music. Practical language skills are furthered, e.g., through the Global.me course run by students from abroad. The school chamber choir provides an opportunity for talented singers to improve their skills.
The idea about excellence in education rising from understanding is underlined in our practices and operations. Communality is another key value at our school. We give our best effort to create and maintain an encouraging working atmosphere that will support and boost learning. Our open and enthusiastic teaching staff continuously strives towards developing and updating their professional skills. In addition to personal learning assistance, the services of SEN teachers (SEN, special education needs), school welfare officers and the school psychologist are available to students. Remedial classes will be offered when need be.
The students of our school come from Kempele and from the neighbouring municipalities of Liminka, Lumijoki, Tyrnävä and from the City of Oulu. With its roughly 340 students, our school forms a highly functional entity, offering a substantial and versatile selection of different courses. The size of our school also enables maintaining a reasonable size for the teaching groups. The school classrooms offer up-to-date teaching facilities and the school has its own study library called Tietotori. Kempelehalli, located right next to the school building, offers a whole range of sports opportunities that can also be made use of as a part of the physical education curriculum.
