Basic education

The two large comprehensive schools in Kempele, the Kirkonkylä and Ylikylä schools, both have almost one thousand students in classes 1 to 9.

The other schools and their student numbers are as follows: Linnakangastalo has approx. 300, Santamäkitalo 170 ja Ketolanperä just under 70 students.

In Kempele, the shift of pupils from primary to secondary school already takes place when they start the 5th form (usually at the beginning of the 7th form). This means that all the children in Kempele enter one of the two comprehensive schools earlier than usual, and study at these schools till the end of their basic education stage.

The upper secondary school is started by roughly 120 students in Kempele every year. The total number of students at the different schools in Kempele is continuously growing by 20 to 70 students every year, varying slightly in different age groups, which creates a challenge on teaching resources and facilities.

The web sites of the individual schools provide more detailed information on the schools and their individual current issues and events. School health care services provide, e.g., regular medical examinations for the students. The school accidents page contains information for parents on how accidents at school or on the way to or from school are dealt with.

The focus of basic education in the near future has been defined as preparing and completing a new basic education curriculum and updating the Good Growth strategy.
