There is plenty to see and experience in Kempele municipality. There are tourist and culture sights to interest every family member. Our historical and traditional sights, shopping centre Zeppelin and recreational swimming pool, Zimmari guarantee an unforgettable experience in our beautiful municipality.

Tourist sights

The two most interesting tourist sights in Kempele are the churches. The old wooden church from the 1600's, is one of the oldest churches in Finland. The new modern church from the 1990's is again one of Finland's most modern churches. Both churches are built on the same hill and thereby create a unique entity. When the new church was planned, the old church and its graveyard were given considerable thought.

Kempele Museum of Local History and Culture is located near the business centre on Kirkkotie-road. Its history begins in 1733 when a royal commander's official residence, "Hovila" was built on the site. This site was owned, after many eventful spells by Aappo Matturi until the municipality bought it and its buildings in 1975. The museum was opened in 1980. It is open from June to August.

Zeppelin shopping centre

Zeppelin, the largest full service shopping center in Northern Finland, is located in Kempele. At Zeppelin you can carry out your food and clothes shopping, shop for furniture or mobile phones, etc. There are many small boutiques and speciality shops under the same roof. There is a range of culinary restaurants to choose from, as well as many different types of events and activities throughout the year. The main Kempele Municipality Library is also located in the Zeppelin shopping center.

Zimmari swimming pool

At the recreational swimming pool, Zimmari you will find slides, jacuzzis, steam saunas and a 25 m pool, and also a seasonal summer terrace. All this just for the price of a normal swimming pool entrance ticket.

Ouluntulli station

In addition, there is Ouluntulli service area, on the main road nr. 4. Here you will find a Neste petrol station. The municipality is proud of its famous beach in the summer, and in the winter there is a "hole in the ice" for the more adventurous tourists.
